Although watching Tik Tok and Instagram is hard to believe, the latest trend in lip beauty does not imply an increase in volume. It involves a needle, yes. And, most importantly, say goodbye! to the duck’s mouth.
The trend is called glossy lips basically looking for a juicy lip effect through hyaluronic acid. What does this effect consist of? It is achieved with Galderma’s Skin Boosters treatment.
Why rehydrate lips
Sometimes we notice the half-dead lips. That is because his skin is very thin and easily dehydrated. But it is also a grateful skin that when applied a hydration treatment seems like reviving.
With the help of doctor Alejandro Acuña, director of the Aesthetic Medicine Unit of AA Clinic in Orense, we understand it better:
This treatment rejuvenates, corrects, prevents and maintains; deeply hydrates, conceals imperfections and brings juiciness to the area. And the best: all this … without filling! ”, he explains.
In this case, a natural result is sought. It is true that hyaluronic infiltration of the lips is very fashionable and that, according to experts such as dermatologist Ana Molina, “Lip filler is the new tattoo, more and more women dare and from younger ages”. Now, not everyone is looking for that higher volume effect.
In search of naturalness
Many women, in fact, run away from fillers for fear of the effect Duck mouth. This does not have to happen if you turn to a good professional who knows how to handle the proportions of the harmonious face well and has good taste and skill with the needle.
But this treatment glossy lips what you are looking for is to improve the appearance, not increase the volume. It is made with a pioneering hyaluronic acid gel, which is the world leader in its segment, from the Galderma company.
We are told that this treatment has been on the market for more than 12 years and more than 6 million treatments have been performed worldwide. It is the product with the most published scientific evidence of efficacy and safety in its category.
It is used as an enhancer of hydration and skin quality, with proven and lasting results of up to 12 months, depending on the patient. It is for all skin types (women and men) and, according to what they tell us, there is a high rate of patient satisfaction: 96% are satisfied and most repeat.
To resolve doubts that may arise and to know if it is a treatment that suits you, we asked Dr. Acuña:
What type of hyaluronic acid is it? Is it the same one used to fill lips?
It is stabilized hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin, indicated to restore the water balance of the lips and skin, as well as to improve its structure and elasticity, since it produces type I and III collagen. Its molecule is so small that it has no bulking or filling effect. But since it hydrates so much, it brings a rejuvenated and juicy appearance to the lips. Since it stimulates collagen, it makes the lip itself rejuvenate and, therefore, a certain volume and density of the mucosa is restored. It can be used at any time, whatever the level of aging of the lips, as it corrects, prevents and maintains.
It can be bothersome and therefore local anesthesia or truncal anesthesia is put in (in that case, the patient would have no pain). However, the patient must be warned that he will have a small inflammatory process for 24 hours.
How often do you have to touch up?
Generally, the effect lasts about six months; from there it can be touched up.
How is the technique?
There are two different techniques depending on the case: one with a cannula and the other with a needle. With a cannula, it is entered from the commissure reaching the middle of the lip (mucosa) in retractants, making three strokes and, then, on the opposite side, the same. In the other technique, a 30G needle is used symmetrically on the vermilion, both above and below each other, first on one side and then on the other.
